Elizabeth Shulok is a parent in Escondido, with a background in software engineering and data science, who currently writes a newsletter covering our public schools in Escondido. She and her husband settled in Escondido over 20 years ago. All three of their children have attended EUSD schools and gone on to Del Lago Academy in EUHSD. Watching them thrive there (her oldest is now at UCSD) is part of why she's so committed to ensuring every family in the district has that same experience.

Elizabeth has a passion for education and has been actively engaged with the district for 14 years. From the time her oldest started Kindergarten, she volunteered in the classroom, on field trips, and offered after-school enrichment for students.

Over the last several years, she has served on multiple district level committees, as well as Quantum Academy's Site Council. She served on advisory committees under two different EUSD Superintendents, working with district stakeholders to provide input to help the district shape and achieve its vision. 

She served on the District Advisory Committee and GATE Collaborative in EUSD as well as the high school district's LCAP Committee.  And twice, when EUSD faced staffing shortages, she stepped in as a substitute noontime supervisor, working at multiple sites across the district. 

This work has given her a detailed understanding of district operations, budgeting, and policy, as well as the challenges faced by staff at school sites. It's the kind of firsthand experience she'll bring to the board.

In 2023, after attending school board meetings for several years Elizabeth launched her newsletter District Voices of Escondido to share news, stories and events from Escondido's public schools with the broader community. District Voices aims not just to keep the community informed about Escondido's schools and school boards, but to encourage engagement with the school districts, because Elizabeth believes community engagement is key to the success of local schools.

Elizabeth has spent her career working as a software engineer and started her own software and consulting business 19 years ago. In 2016, she returned to school to earn a Master of Information and Data Science from UC Berkeley. Elizabeth is running for the EUSD School Board to bring that same analytical, data-driven approach, paired with her deep community involvement, to district leadership.
